depressoboy was founded and exists to foster and encourage the production and creativity of music and art. We believe that the artist should receive the fruits of their labors. We believe that the artist is in control of their music, and when given creative control, will ultimately create the best art possible.

A word on the website design: we have chosen to go with a propaganda theme for our website. This style of art first appeared during the Cold War, and expresses worker strength and solidarity. More recently, this type of propaganda art has been used by artists such as BRUTE [seen frequently on KMFDM album covers] and in Shepard Fairey's Obey Giant/Giant Face campaign. We feel that this represents the same ideals we want in our music label. Music by people, for people, with the profits from the music going back to the artists so they can continue to create art and music, not line some nameless label executive's pocket. depressoboy was orginally concived to be a record label for independent artists and, over time, has evolved into being the primary creative outlet for matthew messenger. To this end, we still belive the orginal "about us" statement holds true - just a bit more focused than orginally intended.
